At the end of a long workday, most people believe that rest begins the moment they stop working. They sit down, scroll on their phone, turn on a show, or simply try to relax. On the surface, this looks like recovery. But if you pay close attention to how your body actually feels, you may notice something different. The mind is still active. The body is still slightly tense. There is a lingering sense of pressure that has not fully left.

This happens because your nervous system does not automatically switch off when your work ends.

It carries the state you were in throughout the day.

If your day required constant attention, problem solving, communication, and subtle stress, your body adapted by staying in a state of activation. That state does not disappear just because you left your desk. Without a clear transition, your system continues operating as if the demands are still present.

This is why many people feel mentally tired but physically restless in the evening.
